THIRTEENTH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

On thirteenth week,Dr Abdullahi M.I was not around and Mr Adebayo did not come but Dr Babangida came and we discussed about community analysis.
 Also,he told us the steps to follow in analysing a community or society,so i understood community analysis as a process of conducting research in other to evaluate or know  the information needs of a given society.The class was interactive.An assignment was given to us at the end of the class.

There was no lecture on the 12th week because the lecturer was not around.

On the 11th week Dr Abdullahi M.I did not come on time but Mr Adebayo came early and we started discussing about community analysis. Then Dr Abdullahi M.I came and we continued with our discussion.
  a suggestion was brought up by one of our colleague that research should come before analysis, I also thought of it that research should come before analysis because I  know research must come carried out before analysis. The lecturer asked the guy what he wanted is it money or mark? and the said mark he was impressed with the and so he gave him both money and mark.
 What I learnt that day in class was that information seeking should come before information searching,it is after seeking that you will search. I enjoyed the class that day because I learnt new thing because I never new that seeking should come before searching until that day. Also different questions were asked and they were all answered and contributions were made also and that brought the class to an end, the class was interactive.

There was no lecture on the 10th week, that day was a lecture free day because we went for a public lecture which was organized by our faculty and it also took place in our faculty.

NINETH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

On the 9th week I was absent, but I asked about what was done in the class, and due to the enquiry I made I was told that the lecturer pointed some people to read out their manual  journal entries and he made some corrections he also took attendance at the end of the class.
  I missed the class but I wished I was present because I sense the class to be an interactive one. An assignment was given at the end of the class.

The 8th week was mid-semester break so there was no lecture.

SEVENTH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

On the seventh week we discussed about information and information need, and different definition of the two terms were given I saw information as the knowledge that one gets about something or someone facts or details about a subject, and I saw information need as my desire to locate and obtain information to satisfy my information need.
      At the end of the class we were told by the lecturer to write down what we discussed in our electronic and manual journal and we should bring our manual journal along with us to the next class.
     The lecture was not very interactive because I was not feeling too well that day.

SIXTH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

On the sixth week,we interacted and discussed about culture different groups defined it based on their understanding but my group defined culture as the sum  total way of peoples life.
      We went further to discuss social norms as the commitment to shared social prescription or rules of behavior among people, and we defined value system as the set of belief by which one has chosen to live his or her life.
    After the discussion, I understood the difference between the two terms i.e the difference between social norm and value system, I also understood its relevance to library and information science, the class was  an interactive one. Also after the class we were given an assignment and the questions were define the following concepts:
       1) Information
       2)Information need
       3)Information searching behavior
      4)Information seeking behavior
      5)Information user
 And that brought the class to an end.    

FIFTH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

On the fifth week, we had a group discussion about the sociology of knowledge and ethnocentrism, and I learnt the relevance of ethnocentrism to library and information science and why it should be studied, the lecturer even came to my group and we discussed with him about ethnocentrism I enjoyed the class because it was very interactive because it was even in the class that I learnt about  what ethnocentrism is. The lecture was really interesting.      

FOURTH WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY

On the fourth week,the lecture started by sending those that did not read out of the class,he then gave us that were in the class time to discuss within our group the assignment questions,after some time he asked questions which were answered by different group members.Different definition of sociology was given and the keywords were noted down.We also discussed about knowledge and that brougth the class to an end. I enjoyed the class  because i learnt what sociology means and also what knowledge is,the class was quite interactive.We were given an assignment on what is culture,social norm,value system and what is the difference between knowledge and information.                                                                                                                             

THIRD WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY

On the third week we had an interactive class where we were divided into a group of four and each of us asked other question about our likes,dislike,what we will want others to tell us,what are our names are,what motivated us to choose library and information science programme and we ansered all the questions and we also gave each other advice that are beneficial.We went further to ask the lecturers their names and other questions and they responded to our question,after that we went back to our group of six,and lastly we were given an assignment and that brougth the class to an end.I really enjoyed the class beacause it was very interactive. 

SECOND WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY

On the second week the lecturer was not around so the lecture did not hold.

FIRST WEEK JOURNAL ENTRY OF LIBS 205

The first week of the class was introduction.The lecturer intdroduced himself  he told us his name,and his name is Dr Abdullahi I.M and he told us that he is in charge of taking the course and he went further to tell us about his biography.He further introduced a new method of teaching,he asked us to group ourselves into a group of six and that brought the class to an end.
     My understanding that day was that we will be having our lecture in groups.
